HST 4504: Science, the Scientist, and Society

Offers students an in-depth account of the life, achievement, and cultural milieu of outstanding individuals of science — for example, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, or Einstein. Assumes an interconnectedness among the scientist's personality, career, and society, and explores such topics as the autonomy of science, the role of education, science, and religion, and the social relations of science and psycho-history.
