Join the moderator and panel members for a wide-ranging discussion about "Big Brother" technologies, including new modes of personal identification, powerful tools for surveillance, and highly efficient procedures for data collection and sharing.

MODERATOR

E. Haavi Morreim

Dept. of Human Values & Ethics, College of Medicine and Division of Health Services and Research Policy, University of Tennessee. Dr. Morreim is the author of many works on the ethical and legal implications of medicine's changing economics. She is a consultant in medical ethics and patient advocacy issue.

PANELISTS

Andrew L. Feenberg

Department of Philosophy, San Diego State University. Dr. Feenberg's book, Transforming Technology and other works focus on critical theory and human values in the design of computer networks and on democratizing technology.

Paul B. Ferrara

Director of Virginia Commonwealth University's Division of Forensic Science. Dr. Ferrara is an expert in the use of DNA technology and has frequently been consulted by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney General's Office as well as state and local law enforcement agencies.

Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

Founder, President, and CEO, The Center for Security Policy. Mr. Gaffney was formerly a high ranking official at the Defense Department and Chairman of NATO's High Level Group. He is an internationally recognized expert on foreign and defense policy matters.

Helen Nissenbaum

Department of Culture and Communication, Information Law Institute, School of Law, NYU. Dr. Nissenbaum has authored works focused on the ethical dimensions of information and communications technology and policy, including privacy and security issues.

Marc Rotenberg

Executive Director, Electronic Privacy Information Center, a public interest research organization. Mr. Rotenberg is one of the leading experts in cyberspace law and policy in the U.S. in areas such as encryption policy, computer security, surveillance, and cyber liberties.
